Do you use Daily Affirmations as a part of your routine?
Of course, you have more than likely heard about daily affirmations before now – thanks to *cough* basically every blog/influencer on the internet. And if you’re anything like me, maybe you’re of the “I’m sure it works for some people….but I don’t know….” *shrugs* *never tries it anyway* crowd.
That being said, about 6 months ago I decided to give it a try.
I had bought a book called The Gratitude Formula by May McCarthy at the suggestion of a friend. And, I immediately couldn’t put it down. The book encapsulated several proven methods the author had developed and used on her clients over the years. Her objective? To help people achieve their dream life in every aspect – spiritually, mentally, financially, you name it.
As I stood looking over the ledge of what I WANTED to do at the time, which was to take the plunge and start my first business, it seemed like the perfect read.
Now, back to the affirmations!
My biggest take away from the book was making affirmations a daily practice. But, it wasn’t simply me standing in front of a mirror saying “I feel pretty. I am cool.” Blah blah blah. (Although I did throw that in their sometimes because hello? Who doesn’t want to feel pretty and cool ALL of the time?)
However, the bulk of my affirmations were written statements of gratitude for the things I already had, AS WELL AS expressing gratitude for the things that I didn’t have yet.
At first, it felt like there was a HUGE gaping space (mentally AND physically) between the things I had, and the things I wanted.
Ex: “ I am so grateful for my loving family.” <——- Thing I already had.
Ex : “Thank you for giving me a successful business” <—— Thing I did not have.
It felt a little odd at first, but after the first couple of weeks I could immediately feel a shift in my brain as I let the statements flow freely from the tip of my pen.
By expressing gratitude for things seen and unseen, I felt lighter each morning when I started my day. And, I started to observe my life from a higher space.
Instead of dwelling on what I didn’t have, I began to take note of just how many things I had been taking for granted.
Instead of dwelling on how much work starting my own business would be, or giving myself reasons it was unrealistic/stupid/blah de blah blah — I FINALLY JUST SAID THE HELL WITH IT! And here I am now. YAY!
Needless to say, I am a firm believer in the power that daily affirmations hold.
Not only can they help us manifest specific goals, but they also encourage living life through a more positive, gracious lens.
You deserve to feel amazing within your entire self – mind, body, and soul.
So what’re are you waiting for, girl!?
